Well that's fucking weird Pt1: PC Music
Before I became obsessed with Kpop, I was obsessed with PC Music. Hell, if PC Music was still active, I'd probably still be obsessed with PC Music!
Danny L Harle makes the more accessible and danceable stuff in PC Music. 1UL is definitely a dance tune. You can have a little cubicle dance party with Broken Flowers and 1UL.
Carly Rae Jepson even collaborated with Danny L Harle to create this somewhat less experimental tune that I still like even though it doesn't make brain pop rocks as much as the rest.
But back to the weirdness...
I DARE YOU TO NOT LOVE THIS WEIRD ASS TUNE ABOUT SOME KIND OF TELEPATHIC ALIEN ADVENTURE!
Was that too much? Maybe you want to take it down a notch? Here's something a little more chill — in a way.
But wait! There's more to this buffet! Would it really be complete without gender ambiguity? No it would not!
I won't get into SOPHIE right now. I love SOPHIE and she needs her own entry.
But before I leave you, here's something to calm you down.
PC Music makes (made?) very bizarre, very surreal, very futuristic electronica reminiscent of early experimental synth music but with actual musicality. Sometimes. Sometimes it just sounded like weird.
I can't really tell you why I became obsessed with PC Music. You can't dance to most of it. A lot of it is repetitious to the point that it could give you a headache. And it's not really good as background noise for the gym or for writing or for coding or for driving or for anything really. What it is good for is making my brain feel like it's full of pop rocks. Pink pop rocks, to be exact.
Anyways.
PC Music was (is?) a label that had as primary actors SOPHIE (whom I love), Danny L Harle, and AG Cook. They are music producers.
And now a diversion back to Kpop for a moment…
Look, I am not stupid. I know that most Kpop is the brainchild of a committee of producers, composers, writers, etc. The group itself is the performance aspect. The real geniuses behind Kpop are the producers. With electronica and EDM and stuff made by Mark Ronson, the pretence of having an actual group is eliminated: there is the producer and the featured artist doing vocals. As such it is easy to make a leap from EDM/Electronica/whatever to Kpop.
Now, back to PC Music.
I didn't discover PC Music in some organic way: Spotify recommended it to me based on my adding Deadmau5 and Kaskade to an early playlist. "If you like Deadmau5's I Remember, you might like Broken Flowers by Daniel Harle." And I did.
And I dare you to not love this fucking tune!
